Kettlebells

The Russian Kettlebell method of training has experienced an unprecedented growth in popularity in the Unites States and European countries.  They are being hailed internationally as the ultimate hand held fitness tool for strength, weight loss and well being. It is an ancient exercise tool that has been adapted for modern day living.

Kettlebells are extremely versatile. A kettlebell workout will help you lose weight, build muscle, enhance sport performance, maintain fitness level, as well as improve the quality of life as you age.

Kettlebells combine strength, flexibility, cardio and core conditioning. Exercises and movements during a kettlebell workout are simple, fun and unique, and are combined with functional training to meet your specific personal goals. Functional training


The body naturally uses many muscles in movement.  Isolating one muscle, like some exercise do, is unnatural. Functional Training means we recruit and integrate a wide group of muscles; this is how we move in real life and when playing sport.  Effectively training for sport and general health requires a range of muscles being recruited within your session; engaging, in most cases, your core as well as stabilising muscles often forgotten in traditional training.

For example, if we sit down on a machine to train we typically isolate one muscle and in real life, this is not practical, not fun nor a good use of time.

Isometric training is another type of training which we apply effectively to increase overall strength with minimal muscle growth.

Using the TRX


This is a system that utilises suspension training, leveraging your own bodyweight and gravity to develop strength, balance and flexibillity.

The simplicity of the TRX allows you to transition fluidly from exercise to exercise enhancing work endurance, strength, power, balance, coordination, core, as well as  flexibility.

Other interesting pieces of equipment include a half shaped ball known as a  BOSU Ball, very powerful for strengthening your core and in rehabilitation.

Growing Muscle Size
Popular with bodybuilders is resistance training, a form of strength training in which each effort is performed against a specific opposing force.   This form of exercise is used to develop the strength and size of skeletal muscles.

If you would like to grow your muscles, an appropriate strategy needs to be put into place.  It’s not just about using very specific forms of resistance and weight training. Nutrition plays a big role too, involving a careful measurement of Carbohydrates and Protein. The amount of food consumed as well as the time of consumption are all important.

Women
